 Energizer Recharger 15-Mintue Charger & battery package August 15, 2010

I was looking for a way to reduce battery usage cost with my new X-Box 360 as the controllers were burning through batteries at a rather steep rate. After reading the reviews of this product on Amazon I checked pricing and ordered from Amazon.
To my delight this battery recharger is all I expected and more. Also it came packaged with four AA LiMeH batteries, just what I needed for my two controllers.
The charge time on the new batteries was < 30 mintes with recharge times on two batteries < 15 mintues. When the recharged batteries are left in the charger for a bit after charging is completed they cool down to room temperature quickly.
The charger is quite compact and stylish in design. Indeed there is a bit of sound from the cooling fan but it is hardly noticible and in no way objectionalbe, IMO.
A nice feature of the charger is that the electrical contacts are designed so that it's impossible for the charger to apply power to the battery if it's inserted with wrong polarity, a very nice feature indeed.
The batteries last about a week of heavy usage in my X-Box controllers before needing the amazingly quick recharge. So far they have been recharged a half-dozen times.
I strongly recommend this charger & battery package to anyone who wants the saving and convenience of less frequent battery replacement along with a quick recharge.

I figured the good reviews would outweigh the bad when we bought this. I was wrong. This is our third battery charger, and our fourth is shipping from Amazon as I write this. We've had this charger for a year and change.
The good:
- It is a fast charger that will charge many freshly discharged batteries in 15 to 20 minutes.
The bad:
- It won't work with very discharged batteries. Have to use a slower charger first.
- If one cell's charge varies slightly from the others in the bunch, it won't work. Have to use a slower charger first.
- Batteries seem to hold a charge for far less time than with my older chargers. True of my extended life batteries as well.
- Heats batteries beyond anything I have ever seen with another charger, even with the fan.
- Has completely killed 3 sets of batteries due to heat. Actually boiled one set, which I caught before it ruined the charger.
- Corrosion and oxidation builds up on charger terminals and battery terminals quickly.
- L-O-U-D fan.
Purposely bought a replacement which charges slower, and both conditions and equalizes the cells. The extra 45 minutes will be worth it. Save your money and buy something better.

The batteries seem to work well, BUT the charger can only charge in multiples of two, making you have to BUY more batteries than you need! Many toys now require odd numbers of batteries, and you can't charge odd numbers of batteries! Very disappointing. Also, there's only one battery charge indicator light, so detecting problems is difficult.

It's a shame that good companies feel they have to misrepresent their products. The packaging clearly states 15 minute recharge, see also the product image on its Amazon page. However, according to the instructions it takes 26 - 32 min. to charge 4 batteries depending on their capacity. So how hard would it be to state 15 - 30 min charge time? There's nothing wrong with taking 30 min. to charge four batteries, so what's Energizer afraid of? A well-established and reputable company like Energizer should demonstrate more integrity, honesty & ethics, especially since this is a good product.
If you're shooting a quiet indoors event beware that the fan is very loud and potentially would disturb participants and the audience. You'd have to find another room, or since the unit comes with a car charger, you could run back and forth to your car. Alternatively, an easy work-around is to come prepared with an appropriate amount of charged batteries. Or if you're shooting something like a dance party, no worries about the fan.
